in Car Accidents

As we all know, car accidents cause many severe injuries and deaths each year. In fact, motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of injuries and fatalities, and the second leading cause of hospital and emergency room visits in Georgia. The Georgia Department of Transportation reported that more than 1,000 accidents happen in the state on a daily basis. Given the alarming rate of accidents that occur on the road, it’s a good idea to learn about some of the most dangerous highways in Georgia. If possible, you can avoid them. If not, at least you’ll know to be extra careful.

Interstate 1-20

According to a relatively recent study, Interstate I-20 in Atlanta, Georgia, is one the deadliest stretches of highway in the state of Georgia. A study was done analyzing accidents and deaths on this highway for 2013, 2014, and 2015. US census numbers were evaluated as well. In the span of these years, there were 427 fatal crashes, leading to the deaths of 460 people on interstate I-20.

Interstate 75 in Kennesaw

Interstate 75 in Kennesaw is another extremely deadly highway in Georgia. A study done between the years 2015 and 2017 found that there were 111 deaths during the summer months alone.

Mike Padgett Highway Atlanta

This is another Georgia highway that is known to have a lot of fatal car accidents. Cars are traveling at unusually high speeds, there is very high traffic volume which can add to the safety issues of the highway, and there are no protected turn lanes, all of which play a part in the high number of fatalities.

Interstate 285

Interstate I-285 is another seriously dangerous highway in Georgia. It clearly earned its nickname as one of the deadliest highways in Georgia. This highway doesn’t have the most total deaths in Georgia, but it has the highest fatalities per mile. A study done in 2013 shows that there were 26 accidents and 29 fatalities in 2013. This equates to 3.5 accidents every 10 miles.

Deadliest Highway Often Changes

While the deadliest highways often change from year to year, the roads listed above are almost always considered to be some of the most dangerous ones in Georgia.
